21st Century Classroom #DonationForDeskTop

I’ve created a classroom project request at DonorsChoose.org because I want to make sure my students have the materials they need to reach their full potential. The project entails one classroom computer to be used for completing homework, researching information for a project, or simply typing an essay paper. This access to technology will potentially better equip students for the future. Unfortunately the future is no longer just written, it’s typed, it’s coded, it’s on Facebook, it’s on Twitter, it’s on Instagram, it’s reported via online news outlets, it’s blogged about, and without access to all the previously mentioned, the future can seem out of reach. Please help me make that reach a little easier.

I’m asking for donations of any size to help my students. For the next week (7/5 to 7/12), any donation you make to my project will be doubled via DonorsChoose.org! If you know anyone who is passionate about education, please pass this along. Your donation will brighten my students’ school year, and you’ll get photos and thank yous from our class.

I am excited for the students to return. I am also excited for our open house on Wednesday night. I will be handing out fliers to let parents know about my classroom blog (here), grabbing parent emails for future reference, and I will, of course, be giving them (parents & students) an overview of what to expect for the school year. I will also be trying out something new called, Remind101. Here is the handout that I will be giving parents (here), and here is a little something from their website: “Remind101 was built, in conjunction with educators, to solve communication obstacles between teachers, students and parents. Across all grade levels and institution types, Remind101 is a safe and simple communication solution to help teachers extend their classrooms. Signing up takes less than two minutes on the website, iPhone app or Android app, and it only takes seconds for students or parents to join a class. Safety is a primary feature: teachers never see students/parents phone numbers, nor will students/parents see theirs” – (Remind101 Website). Honestly, I’m not completely sold on it for obvious privacy issues, but there seems to be some pretty good safeguards in place. Along with this classroom blog, it will be another form of communication between parents. Keeping an open line is always important, so we shall see how this new tool works or doesn’t work in regards to communicating with parents…
