Literature (Overview)

  • Unit 1: Monster (What’s The 411? – Pt. 1)
  • Unit 2: Of Mice & Men (What’s The 411? – Pt. 2)
  • Unit 3: The Pearl/Time Machine (What’s The 411? – Pt. 3)
  • Unit 4: Old Man & The Sea (What’s The 411? – Pt. 4)

Summary

There are several goals for the 4 units. All four units will work together to form a well versed student in regards to understanding as well as comprehending various forms of text. From start to finish, students will learn the fundamentals of literature. Vocabulary will be emphasized all during all units (see Vocabulary Guidelines & Instructions for reference). My goal is to provide a solid structure as well as foundation for students to build upon with their learned knowledge. Each of these units will be complimented with Reading Comprehension worksheets that specifically pertain to each unit via Evan-Moor. Students will work on vocabulary, citing text, and various comprehension skills on a daily basis. By the end of the year, it is my goal to have students reading as if they were detectives – looking for every clue that will lead them to comprehension.
